Rehat is one of the most misunderstood words in modern Sikhi. It is treated either as a checklist of prohibitions used to judge other Sikhs, or as old-fashioned restriction irrelevant to a serious modern life. Both readings are wrong.
is neither a fence nor a relic. Rehat is the daily code by which a Sikh actually lives, and it is the reason the Khalsa has survived three centuries of state pressure designed to extinguish it.
