Our promise
Accuracy.
All Gurbani free.No ads.Checked line by line.
A missing pauri or a misspelt word in a gutka is not a small thing. So we make accuracy something you can see: anyone can report a line, we check every report, and a bani we have checked line by line says when, and against what.
How checking works.
- Every bani follows the gutka you choose: SGPC, AKJ, Damdami Taksal, Budha Dal, Nanaksar or Hazur Sahib. Each gutka says in the app what it is checked against, and a bani no print has confirmed yet is marked Not yet confirmed and never offered for reading.
- At the end of a bani the app says when it was last checked, and against what. Where there is no record of a check, it says nothing. We never claim a check that did not happen.
- See something wrong? In the app, press and hold the line, then Report This Line. Say what is wrong in a tap, with a short note if you like.
- We check every report against the published gutka and BaniDB. A real fix goes into the next release and is listed below with its date.
- Where the slip is in BaniDB's own text, we send it to Khalis Foundation through their corrections channel, with the printed source, so it can be put right for every app that uses BaniDB.
Our sources.
- Shabad OS database. The Gurmukhi of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Sri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji and the other granths, with its translations. Open source, MIT licence.
- BaniDB, by Khalis Foundation. Our second reading of every Nitnem bani, word by word, and the reference we check each report against. With thanks to Khalis Foundation and the sevadars who keep it.
- The SGPC's Sikh Rehat Maryada. The Panthic Nitnem and the Ardas, in its Punjabi and English editions.
- Damdami Taksal. The Gurmat Rehat Maryada and the Taksali Nitnem gutka (Khalsa Prabandhak Jatha, Bhindran).
- The Nihung Santhia Gutka Sahib app. Its Taksali, Budha Dal, Nanaksar and Hazuri gutkas. Our gutkas of the same names follow it line by line for every bani it prints, keeping our own spelling.
- Sundar Gutka, Nanaksar and Panth Khalsa Nitnem Gutka Sahib. The printed Nanaksar gutka, and the Budha Dal's maryada for which banis are read daily.
We write no translations of our own. Every translation is credited to its translator in the app.
